Horrors from the Depths

After learning of the TopTenz channel on Youtube, I watched their Top 10 Terrifying Prehistoric Sea Monters video. The three creatures that freaked me out the most were:

  1. The prehistoric predator that most people know of is the Megalodon. For those who aren’t aware of this beast, a Megalodon is a shark that is up to 60 feet long. Alive nearly 2.6 million years ago, these creatures are well know in modern times due to the movie “The Meg” from 2018. The main reason this creature freaked me out as much as it does is there is still a chance that these monstrosities may still be alive today (although scientists say it is a very slim chance).
  2. Another of the sea creatures that I’m thankful for being extinct is the Liopleurodon. 20 to 50 feet in length(actual length is still debated) the Liopleurodon had a fifth of its body size being its head, perfect for grabbing huge dinosaurs that neared its domain. That is horrifying seeing as dinosaurs could easily eat humans in one bit depending on the species. Now imagine your swimming and a Lioplerodon swims up near you. And scientists agree that this nightmare of an animal could make extremely agile full burst movements when necessary.
  3. Possibly the scariest known creature from the deep was the Livyatan melvillei, which is a giant sperm whale that ate other whales. Its head was ten feet long with teeth that topped out at 1.18 feet. With Eco-location, this whale could navigate even the murkiest of waters. Not to mention that this whale lived in the same areas as Megalodons and still managed to thrive. This whale was even named after the Laviathan from the bible and the author of Moby Dick.

The Best JRPG in Years

I’ve been a fan of JRPG’s(Japanese Role Playing Games) ever since Final Fantasy. In recent years, however, I’ve found that they aren’t as challenging as they once were and that the stories haven’t been as compelling to me as they once were. This changed however when a port of a PlayStation 3 title was announced for Play Station 4.

The Legend of Heroes franchise was a JRPG series that i’d only heard of a few times and only by name. I had never heard whether it was considered good or bad so I decided to buy the game and decide for myself. I instantly fell in love.

The first title I played in the franchise was the Trails of Cold Steel series, the latest arc of the overall Zumeria continent story. After spending a considerable amount of time learning the game’s unique play style and features, I finally finished the first entry.

The Trails of Cold Steel series has a total of 4 entries within it, however only 3 have been localized for a western audience thus far. The great thing about this is that each game make small changes to the formula and add in new features that weren’t in the previous title. With these changes, many new options and strategies become available not only for the player, but for the enemies as well.

The newest entry follows the main character 2 years after the civil war from Cold Steel 2. As a teacher at the new branch campus of the military school he attended. This allows the player to meet new characters that have unique abilities unlike those in the first two games, as well as, allowing us to meet our old classmates in their new occupations throughout the game.

For those of you interested in a great game and want to see if it is for you, check out the trailer for the newest entry in the U.S.

The Social Network

In the movie The Social Network there were many moments of people making mistakes. Both Mark and Eduardo both made their fair share. Eduardo, however, made a rather costly mistake. When Facebook was reassessed and had money put into by someone other than Eduardo, there were some changes made to all of the stockholders. Eduardo did not look into the documents that much as he believed that he was speaking to his lawyers and trusted that his “best friend” Mark was not hurting him. He couldn’t have been more wrong. While there is likely many answers as to why Mark betrayed Eduardo, I personally believe it was due to Eduardo cutting Mark off from the money that Eduardo invested into Facebook. When Eduardo went to California to see how Mark and Facebook were doing while in New York, Eduardo saw how much Mark was ignoring Eduardo’s concerns and going overboard with partying. To get Mark’s attention he emptied the money that he(Eduardo) had invested until Mark could calm down.

It cannot be denied however that there were genius ideas made by the Facebook team. After meeting the Winklevoss twins and being presented the idea of a dating site that could mimic the college experience, Marc began thinking of the basic idea of Facebook. Making sure it had the appeal of selectivity of who could see the information inside as this was the only aspect of the idea that the twins presented to Mark that he actually thought had merit.

As Mark was attending one of his classes during the early development of Facebook one of his classmates asked Mark about one of the women in another class, specifically, if they were dating and if they would be interested in dating him. This prompted Mark to have what was likely his best idea for Facebook, the relationship status. This separated Facebook from other sites that were similar to what Mark was trying to create.

About me

Hey, I’m Troy and this is my blog for my Understanding Social Media class for College. There will be a variety of topics for my posts. The main type of posts i’ll be making will be screenshots of my editing work for one of my other classes, since that is what I plan to focus on for a career. I’m also learning how to cook so look forward to some hunger-inducing food pictures.
