The Social Network

In the movie The Social Network there were many moments of people making mistakes. Both Mark and Eduardo both made their fair share. Eduardo, however, made a rather costly mistake. When Facebook was reassessed and had money put into by someone other than Eduardo, there were some changes made to all of the stockholders. Eduardo did not look into the documents that much as he believed that he was speaking to his lawyers and trusted that his “best friend” Mark was not hurting him. He couldn’t have been more wrong. While there is likely many answers as to why Mark betrayed Eduardo, I personally believe it was due to Eduardo cutting Mark off from the money that Eduardo invested into Facebook. When Eduardo went to California to see how Mark and Facebook were doing while in New York, Eduardo saw how much Mark was ignoring Eduardo’s concerns and going overboard with partying. To get Mark’s attention he emptied the money that he(Eduardo) had invested until Mark could calm down.

It cannot be denied however that there were genius ideas made by the Facebook team. After meeting the Winklevoss twins and being presented the idea of a dating site that could mimic the college experience, Marc began thinking of the basic idea of Facebook. Making sure it had the appeal of selectivity of who could see the information inside as this was the only aspect of the idea that the twins presented to Mark that he actually thought had merit.

As Mark was attending one of his classes during the early development of Facebook one of his classmates asked Mark about one of the women in another class, specifically, if they were dating and if they would be interested in dating him. This prompted Mark to have what was likely his best idea for Facebook, the relationship status. This separated Facebook from other sites that were similar to what Mark was trying to create.
